Mercedes Schlapp has no easy job in her role her position as White House adviser for strategic communications. Schlapp is able to remain in the right frame of mind and stay on top of her game, working alongside White House teams in political matters, legislative affairs and policy, in addition to the wider communications team. The main areas of her agenda has focused on issues like trade, school safety as well as opioids. At the moment the director does not interact too much with journalists. It was in March that she gained a sudden burst media attention when it became known that Schlapp would be the next candidate to replace Hope Hicks's post as director of communications. The battle has been bitter. The Schlapp's allies as well as Tony Sayegh have begun to fight with the media.
